Kansas City, Providence, Baton Rouge, & Indianapolis
The Green Fellowship started in Kansas City in 2018 and is now expanding to Baton Rouge and Providence. To learn more about Baton Rouge and Providence, please reach out to: GreenFellowship@TeachForAmerica.org.
Teach For America has operated in Kansas City since 2008. We’ve brought over 1000 leaders to serve more than 150,000 students in the last 10+ years. The last several Kansas City Public Schools (the largest district partner we serve) Teacher of the Year recipients have been Teach For America alumni. Our alumni have founded schools, become elected officials and won numerous awards for their leadership in our community. Our school partners have received National Blue Ribbon awards and outscored peers across Missouri in end-of-course tests.
With more than 15 unique districts, Kansas City is a thriving community with endless opportunities. We sit in the heart of America, where leaders have access to several opportunities. From interactions with policy leaders, deep involvement in community service, and the opportunity to champion local change, leaders have the opportunity to grow in their professional and personal development.
While there is still much to be done, this achievement proves Kansas City is making remarkable strides on the path toward educational equity. In 2019, Kansas City Public Schools District received its highest scores ever in the state’s Annual Progress Report, making it eligible for full accreditation.
"In today’s Kansas City, there’s a certain vitality that can undermine millennials’ collective sense of wanderlust. It’s an energy that runs through venues like Char Bar in Westport on a Friday night, percolates on Saturday morning at Blip Roasters in the West Bottoms and simmers on a Saturday afternoon at entrepreneurial retailers like Charlie Hustle and Baldwin on the Plaza."
